Third to be featured on my blog is Mike Kappitt. He is President of Carrabba’s Italian Grill and a master of all things marketing. He’s had a very interesting trajectory in his career as his degree is in Finance and he started fresh out of college crunching numbers as a revenue management analyst for a car rental agency. From there got into Field Marketing for Burger King and worked his way up to Chief Marketing Officer for North America. From there he took on the role of Chief Marketing Officer for Outback Steakhouse and is now President of Carrabba’s. So, how did he get from point A to point B you may ask? Working hard, forging connections, taking risks, and being on his marketing A game. His persistence gave the marketing group within the corporation the attention and importance it deserved. It involved stepping back, doing things differently, and convincing others to take some marketing risks in order to gain big payouts. He also recommended really digging into analytics and understanding it on a deep level as it really helps drive sound decisions. Finally, he really drove the point home of how it’s important to create brand fanatics by taking care of those that take care of you. It was an eye-opening chat that was extremely uplifting for me!
